The City Cheese Store was a fairly old place that existed for years in the heart of downtown New York. The guy who ran the shop was a cheerful fellow with thick glasses who never noticed that an entire community of mice lived on the premises, which is probably why Sheldon and Shelly and the others managed to get by for such a long time without ever worrying about cats. As long as the cheese shop owner remained ignorant of their presence, they knew that he would probably not bother with getting a cat.

The store itself appeared to be a success and the many regular customers always returned and usually with smiles on their gigantic human faces, requesting this or that brand of cheese from this or that part of the world. The cash register could be heard all day long ringing out loud like endless sleigh bells....
